Su Casa Hispanic Center
I thought the field trip to Su Casa Hispanic Center was very insightful. Being Catholic, it was nice to see an outreach center and programs take place that are affiliated with the Catholic Church since so many Latinos are indeed also Catholic. I thought the Vacaciones Utiles summer school program for children Preschool through second grade is a fabulous program that fills many needs in one great way. Parents have a safe place to take their children during the day so that they can continue to work even when children aren't in school. Children also receive educational support to help them bridge the gap due to their lack of proficiency in English that helps them catch up with their peers in class when school starts again in the fall. I also think that it is great that they receive meals throughout the day and even on weekends to ensure that these children receive the nourishment that they need. Great place that is much needed!

I also like the idea that not only they receive educational services, but they make sure that the kids have fun and can enjoy their summer while they continue reinforcing learning and English.
ReplyDeleteI think it is wonderful that Su Casa meets both the educational and physical needs of the kids as well as offering their parents an opportunity to continue their employment in the summer. It seems like a win-win situation that the community embraces and that the employees are truly invested in.
