The Healing Center was a fascinating place to visit and tour. When we first arrived, I was under the impression that it would deal with physical healing. I could not be more wrong. They dealt with "healing" every aspect of the person. I was especially impressed with the fact that the volunteers do not merely process their clients and pass them on to the next session. They take the time to counsel and listen to them. They make sure that the people they are serving are aware of what is happening. They also strive to make sure that all of their needs are met, food, clothing and other. I was even more impressed with the fact that Shaina was willing to stand up for the Latino community against forces that were working against them. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the facility and seeing all of the different areas. (The warehouse, pantry, clothing "wearhouse", the chapel and private meeting rooms and classrooms.) They truly perform a great service for the community.
I was excited to see the educational and tutoring services that are offered and encouraged for the community.
It was a truly inspiring experience- and I agree about Shaina. She is definitely a advocate and leader for rights and respect for some of our more marginalized community members. It was definitely a "feel good" experience to know how much good work is being done there.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed and was very impressed by the building, people, resources and overall mission of the Healing Center. It just simply felt good to know that there are a lot of really caring people in our area (and in my school district) that simply want to help others! They do not judge, condemn or question the character of the recipients of their aid and resources. A truly Christian mission carrying out goodwill towards our fellow man.
