The Healing Center

What an amazing facility - and an effort to make guests feel welcome and valued.  I am awed by the variety of services they provide and basic needs that the center is striving to fulfill.  I am also amazed that they do so with a small staff - relying very heavily on volunteers to fulfill rather difficult tasks in addition to basic sorting of donations.  I wish I was in a district that was closer physically, because I can envision great service learning opportunities.  I need to find similar sites/opportunities for my students in the Fairfield/Franklin county area.  I was especially impressed by their simultaneous integration and separation from the church - an understanding that spiritual services are provided but not required or pressured.  I often wonder about the ways in which religious service organizations and charities walk that line.

  1. I also thought that it was incredibly impressive how much of the Healing Center is run by volunteers. Milford is a bit far from Springdale, but our Spanish club does a fair amount of volunteering and I'm excited to let it's adviser know about the Healing Center. It was an impressively organized program where it seemed like it would be possible to jump into volunteering with any part of the Healing Center's programs with a little bit of training.
