The trip to the Healing Center and Su Casa was very, very eye opening. Both facilities (and the good people that work there) were unique and impressive in their own way. The Healing Center, which is located in the school district where I work, was amazing.  The size, scale and function of the building serves their clients in so many ways - education, day care, physical and mental health, jobs, spirituality and sense of connectedness. The amount of goods and services available serve many, many households and improve the lives of many people.

Su Casa was enlightening as well. Serving mainly Guatemalan immigrants, Su Casa used in political (President Vicente Fox) and economic connections (Procter and Gamble) to provide a school, church and outreach center to help many, many Guatemalans and other immigrants from Latin America. Providing summer programs, breakfast and lunch to pre-schoolers and kindergarteners gives these families and their children an opportunity to gain the vital skills (social, academic) to succeed at elementary school.....It was obvious and clear that the mission of Su Casa is to serve and provide for their clients in a meaningful and caring manner.

  1. I thought the Healing Center was amazing as well. I had no idea that all those services were available in our district.

  2. We have worked with them at least once in the past (as a recipient of food drive donations) but I had no idea their offerings were so extensive. Until this week I had thought them to be just another food bank. I certainly hadn't known that they specifically targeted the Latino community.
