One fact that amazed me during the presentation of
Jacqueline Rioja Verde is the percentage of Latinas that are succeeding in Ohio
and the growth that we are seeing here. Another fact that surprised me was that
I assumed that Cincinnati had a bigger population of Hispanics and I learned
today that Dayton has a larger one. Living only 20 minutes away from Dayton I
don’t feel that there are many Latinas that I can interact with except if I
visit a Hispanic restaurant or I’m working for the county in Springfield. I’m
glad to learn that single Latina women are becoming more successful due to the
willingness and hunger for realization. As a Latina I’m proud of myself and how
far I have gotten in life as I learned today that I form part of the 92% of
Latinas that have acquired an MA in the past 10 years. I can’t wait to visit
different counties during my summer break and learn what Latinas are doing for
each other and hopefully I can be part of the movement.
The statistics that were shared were encouraging in some ways. Looking back from the end of the class, most of our speakers and people we met on our field trips were amazing Ohio Latinas!
