Sherry Neal

I really enjoyed listening to Sherry Neal's discussion on immigration, but I'm a bit sad to say that I didn't know nearly as much about immigration as I thought I did before she came in. My husband and I watch the news each night and consider ourselves to be educated about current events, but I had no idea how complex and confusing immigration actually is. I was interested to learn more about the 3 and 10 year bar as well as the diversity lottery (both topics I had heard referenced, but knew little about); and, after hearing these systems discussed in detail, I now have a better understanding of why so many people are frustrated with the current immigration process and why so many people ignore current policy. It’s easy for me to say that immigrants need to “follow the proper steps,” but I honestly can’t imagine how I would feel or act if I were in that situation. If anything, this lecture further intensified my belief that immigration reform is a huge necessity, but I am afraid that it will be a long time before a working system is created. I am now even more interested to follow the proceedings reviewing immigration reform that are currently occurring.
